Low-content books and journals on KDP: a beginner guide
Planners, logbooks and journals: what they are, how to make one, and the rules to respect.
Platform rules change often. Requirements below were checked against official pages in October 2026; always confirm on the linked source before applying.
Low-content books (journals, planners, logbooks, trackers) have repeated interior pages and little text. They're a common first KDP project because the interior is simple.
Steps
- Pick a specific buyer: "fishing log for weekend anglers" beats "notebook".
- Design an interior that is genuinely useful (prompts, layouts, sections), not blank filler.
- Design a cover that accurately represents the book.
- Write an honest description.
- Upload, preview, and publish through KDP.
Rules to respect
- KDP does not allow content that is "typically disappointing to customers" or descriptions that mislead (KDP content guidelines).
- You are responsible for not infringing copyright, trademark or brand rights, including on the cover and title (KDP).
- If any cover or interior art was created by an AI tool, it's AI-generated and must be disclosed (KDP).
